Kate Middleton Picks Winning Shoe Design

What is it with the royals and blue shoes this week? First Harry was dancing in Jamaica in blue suede shoes. Now, Kate Middleton has announced the winner of the shoe designing contest held in her honor and they are also blue. ShoesTV has all the details on the shoes and why they caught the Duchess of Cambridge's eye.

The Duchess, looking ravishing, arrives in town to announce the winner.

Two weeks ago, we reported on a design contest at De Montfort University in England. The palace requested six shoe designs from the school's Footwear Design Program. Over 100 students from the program submitted designs and it was narrowed down to the top six before Middleton looked over the designs. She chose 20-year-old Becka Hunt's design as her favorite. Hunt's design was inspired by 19th century fashions and based on the Duchess' engagement ring, hence the blue color.

“I am absolutely overwhelmed, excited and amazed," said Hunt. "The attention I have had since I was announced as the winner is all a little scary to be honest, but I have to say it has been great fun and hopefully this will be good for a future career.”

The shoes will be crafted to Middleton's exact specifications at the campus and delivered to the Duchess. “All six of us had our shoes in a cabinet and she came over and said we had all done well and the shoes looked amazing," Hunt continued.

"When asked who their first commission was for at their first job interview, they will be able to reply 'the Duchess of Cambridge, the world's leading fashion icon'," Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University Professor Dominic Shellard said.
