Meryl, who beat out Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, Tilda Swinton and Berenice Bejuo, raced up the stairs to receive her award when her black heel slipped off. Colin Firth, who announced Meryl's victory, valiantly recovered the shoe. An overwhelmed Streep exclaimed, "That couldn't have gone any worse."
