Buy a Pair Shoes, Get a Free Man!

Shoemaker, shoemaker, make me a match! A Malaysian boutique, Shoes Shoes Shoes, is offering a new twist on traditional matchmaking. For every pair of shoes purchased, customers get a free date. ShoesTV has the scoop on this one-of-a-kind campaign.
Ever wanted a man who loves you for your shoes? If you’re in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you may be in luck. Shoes Shoes Shoes teamed up with dating service Lunch Actually and launched Shoe Dating earlier this month.

A male mannequin at one of the two Shoes Shoes Shoes' storefronts wears a sticker, saying "Free." Is there an extra charge for the biceps?
How does Shoe Dating work, you ask? Bachelors go to Lunch Actually’s website and select their 20 favorite women’s shoes. Women purchase shoes from Shoes Shoes Shoes, and sign up for Shoe Dating either at the boutique or online. Then, they can view the profiles of men who selected their shoes. Men also post how much of the shoe’s cost they are willing to reimburse (between 10% and 100%) in return for a date.
The Huffington Post calls it “shoe prostitution,” but Shoe Dating stands by their campaign. Their website notes, “You could find Mr. Right who’s kind enough to fund your new shoe investment and smart enough to get your choice right even before meeting you.”

Shoe Dating promises: "As seen in fairy tales, buy a pair of shoes, get a date for free."
On the facebook page for Shoe Dating, commenters are on both sides of the fence. Some, like facebook user Sonja Riveland, call the campaign “supremely creepy.” Others are enthusiastic: “This idea is awesome!!!! When can we get something like this is the U.S.?” wrote Dede Eagleburger.
Whether U.S. stores jump on the matchmaking bandwagon remains to be seen. For the bachelors' sakes, we just hope that Mickey Rooney's quote isn't true: "I buy women shoes and they use them to walk away from me."
